Overview: Reckoning caught me off-guard. It's labelled as a paranormal story, so I wasn't prepared for how creepy certain scenes were. Along with the intense descriptions, I was completely blown away by this debut novel. I love horror and I love paranormal, so when the two mix together as seamlessly as they did in this novel...I'm in bliss. The author portrays what scares Kat so clearly that it gave ME goosebumps. I also liked how the narrative in the novel wasn't "dumbed down" simply because it was told from a teenage point of view. The music preferences of the characters do make the novel feel dated (late 90s), although when I went to high school those were exactly the bands I listened to, so I didn't mind.

Plot/Characters: Kat has visions of dead people and these visions are getting harder and harder to hide. Her mother tries to hook Kat up with the cute new neighbor, but he gives Kat the creeps. No, Kat rather fantasize about hooking up with Rick, who she's too terrified to talk to despite her huge crush. I really enjoyed Kat. Although she sees visions, she really does act and worry like the average teenager. She's concerned about buying a car, finding a boyfriend, and spending time with her best friend, Rachel. Rachel is a pretty kick-ass best friend. She's spunky and bubbly but not annoyingly so. Lovell is definitely a creepy neighbor, but I he has a very seductive side to him. He's like a younger and sexier version of Hannibal Lector- only he doesn't eat people. At least, I don't think he does. For those who don't see the sex-appeal of Hannibal, this comparison between the two guys might be lost.

Ending: I like the intensity of the ending. What I didn't like was how more questions were raised just as fast as my original questions were being answered. I'm disappointed that book two isn't released yet. I have a suspicion about Rachel that I REALLY want to know if it is true or not. Now, I have to go hunt someone else down that has read the book to figure out if anyone else picked up on these "hints" and to compare theories on book two. Because, you know...I will definitely be reading book two.

(I liked the book so much that I purchased a copy for my mom immediately after finishing my review copy. She's a school teacher and this will be perfect for her paranormal loving school kids. I received my review copy as part of the blog tour in exchange for my honest review.)

Reckoning Dark Prophecy Book 1 eBook Molly M Hall Reviews

This was a gripping and fast moving supernatural thriller. It is written as a young-adult novel, but adults will enjoy it as well. The tension builds effectively from the beginning and you will have a hard time putting it down. I bought the book just before going on vacation and it was a great choice to read while sitting on the beach. I just wish the next installment had been out because I finished it before the vacation was over. It really will leave you anxious to read the next book. There is clearly going to be a lot more excitement to come.
I found myself really rapt with the story It is written for teens but I found myself remembering when many times such as when you get that date with the guy you can't believe REALLY likes you back! I can't wait to get the hard copy to add to my high school class collection. I know many of my students will get involved with Kat and the extra "powers" she possesses. Looking forward to the next in the series!
This is fresh and original fiction from a new voice in the juvenile paranormal genre. I found the characters believable and (mostly) likeable, and while I always looked forward to picking the book up at night, toward the end I couldn't put it down. Don't keep us waiting, Molly; keep up the good work!
A quick and easy read, holds your attention. A little more background for the first book would have been good, but I wasn't lost or frustrated while reading it.
I really loved this book, it's that good that I finished it in a day, the writing flows and the story moves along quickly and has you eager to discover what the next page holds.

Kat has seen spirits all her life, but has learned to mostly keep the fact to herself after her parents sent her to a pychiatrist when she was younger after she used to talk about seeing them.

Kat spends a lot of her time with her best-friend Rachel while pining away for the school hottie Rick, when he finally asks her out to say she's over the moon is an understatement, when the house next door that's been empty for quite a while is suddenly occupied by Lovell a boy around her age, her Mum seems intent on setting them up, but there's something strange about Lovell and there seems to be something he's hiding.

But suddenly Kat seems to be seeing more spirits than usual, a girl dancing on the field at school, who may or may not be a good spirit and there seems to be a malovent presence following her around, and they're out to get her.

A great book and I'll be eagerly anticipating further books in this series,

I give this 4/5.
Cover

Now THIS is an amazing cover! I love everything about it. It's dark, it's creepy, and I was beyond thrilled when I was given the chance to review it. It's like the cover was made just for me. There's a ghostly aura about it which fits the story line and totally sucked me in! Add some scary trees in the back and you've got one excited chick. And check out that dress... just wow, perfection.

Characters

Kat was such an awesome character. She's really someone to look up to. She's not easily persuaded and she tells it how it is. I didn't like how shy and awkward she was in the beginning due to a certain boy she'd been crushing on, but once the story picked up she totally redeemed herself. Her attitude towards Lovell cracked me up. After a while I was like please give this poor man a break already. And Rachel is just the greatest addition ever. I wish we all had a friend like her!

Story

I knew I was going to love this book from the very beginning. Kat sees ghosts... I'm in! I love a good ghost story and this one did not disappoint. For the first time EVER, I got a little creeped out while reading this book. Bravo Molly, that never happens! I have been waiting for the day when a book would come along that actually made me want to sleep with the lights on, and I have finally found it. I'm a cliffhanger fan so I was pretty content with the ending. I can't wait to read the next installment!
